THE FRANKLINS

notes by P John Partington

JOHN FRANKLIN  (bef. 1745 - 1778)

Our earliest currently identified Franklin ancestor is John, who married Lydia in the mid eighteenth century in Handborough, Oxfordshire, and had five children – Stephen born in 1761, Sarah in 1763, another Stephen in 1766, Elizabeth in 1769 and George in 1774.  John died on 27 August 1778, still in Handborough.

THE CHILDREN OF JOHN  (bef. 1745 - 1778)

John’s first child, Stephen, was born on “about 16 August 1761” in Handborough and died there on “about 23 March 1763”.

John’s second child, Sarah, was born in Handborough on “about 10 April 1763”.  She married John Hunt there on 29 May 1785.  The couple had at least two children:  Job, born in 1789 and Sarah in 1791.  John died on “about 28 November 1792” and Sarah on “about 26 June 1793”, both still in Handborough.

John’s third child, another Stephen, was born in Handborough on “about 14 November 1766”, and died there on “about 23 March 1768”.

John’s fourth child, Elizabeth, was born in Handborough on “about 26 March 1769”, and died there on “about 12 May” the same year.
