    THE BAILEYS OF CAM

    notes by P John Partington

INTRODUCTION

I’ve done almost no research on this south Gloucestershire family yet.  The younger Sarah married my wife’s maternal ancestor William Bennett in the mid-eighteenth century – for further details see my notes on the Bennett family.

LEONARD & SARAH BAILEY

Leonard and Sarah had a daughter Sarah, baptized at Cam, in south Gloucestershire, in 1720.  Leonard died on 27 November 1732 and Sarah (senior) on 19 July 1759;  both were buried at Coaley, Gloucestershire.

SARAH BAILEY  (c.1720 - aft. 1764)

Leonard & Sarah’s daughter Sarah was baptized in Cam on 27 February 1720.  She married William Bennett, by whom she had eleven children:  Isaac, John baptized in 1748, Ashfield in 1749, William in 1751, Sarah, Mary, Daniel in 1759, Leonard Bailey in 1760, James, Charlotte and Keturah in 1765.  William and Sarah farmed first at Eastwood, near Thornbury; then at “The Oakleys”, Berkeley; and finally at Norton’s Farm, Henbury.  A grandson, James Bennett, records that both William and Sarah died “at an advanced age” at Henbury.
